The keto diet (short for ketogenic) is hot and continues to grow in popularity. If you can master this low-carb, high-fat eating plan, you may enjoy long-term results, such as lower body fat and lean muscle mass…without feeling hungry all the time. Certain keto diet supplements can help boost your results or provide the nutrients you may be missing. Here a few to consider.

MCT Oil

Medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil is one of the most popular keto diet supplements. MCTs are digested quickly, giving your body the boost of energy it needs without the added sugar.

Benefits of using MCT oil include enhanced weight loss and decreased body fat. Other research has found that MCT oil can help keep gut health in check and aid in the absorption of nutrients.

Try: NOW Sports MCT Oil. Stir 1 tablespoon per day into coffee or yogurt or add to your favorite smoothie.

Magnesium

This is a critical mineral for many of the body’s functions—energy production and metabolism, muscle contraction and bone mineralization to name a few.

Foods high in magnesium, such as whole grains and beans, are carb-heavy, therefore typically avoided by those on the keto diet.

To ensure you are getting enough magnesium, you may need to supplement. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for adults is 310 to 420 milligrams per day, depending on age and gender.

There are numerous types of magnesium formulations that can be used as keto diet supplements. Many health professionals recommend magnesium citrate, as it is more readily absorbed and used by the body than other types of magnesium.

Try: Nature Made Magnesium Citrate Softgels

Calcium

Keto dieters tend to avoid milk and other dairy products to stay under the daily carb limit, so it’s easy to end up with too little daily calcium if you aren’t supplementing.

The RDA of calcium for adults is 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams per day, which is necessary to keep bones strong and prevent diseases, such as osteoporosis.

Different kinds of calcium contain varying amounts of the mineral. Calcium carbonate contains one of the highest amounts of elemental calcium, which means your body is able to absorb more of this important mineral.

Try: Bluebonnet Nutrition Calcium plus Vitamin D3 Softgels, formulated with calcium carbonate for better absorption.
