How health and supplement company Ancient Nutrition is not only preserving but also replenishing the environment through eco-focused initiatives and sustainable resources.

Since 2016, Ancient Nutrition has been an advocate for health and wellness with its line of supplements and vitamins rooted in ancient health traditions and backed by current research. But the company and its founders, Dr. Josh Axe and Jordan Rubin, have goals that reach beyond the health of its customers to encompass the well-being of the environment, too, including commitments to carbon neutrality, reforestation and plastic reduction.

These initiatives are a “way to turn our business into a force of good instead of profiting at the expense of the planet. These changes have positive effects on your overall health and the environment,” says Rubin, calling out a few of the goals Ancient Nutrition is already working hard to achieve.

Regenerative farming.

Through a partnership with the Rodale Institute—a nonprofit dedicated to the organic farm movement—Ancient Nutrition recently started a 14-year study focusing on environmental regeneration and healthy food production through carbon sequestration, water conservation, and soil diversity and viability. With 4,000 acres of certified organic farmland in Tennessee and Missouri through its R.A.N.C.H. (Regenerative Agriculture, Nutrition, and Climate Health) Project, the company will collaborate with Rodale on data collection and analysis—while donating one percent of profits to the cause.

Carbon neutrality.

Offsets and regenerative agricultural initiatives will help Ancient Nutrition become carbon neutral—or even carbon negative, meaning that the company is removing more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it emits.

Plastic reduction.

Ancient Nutrition has a company-wide goal to reduce its plastic production and waste by a minimum of 25 percent, while transitioning to more sustainable packaging and marketing material solutions. For example, it no longer uses plastic neck band safety seals, and is eliminating its outer cartons as well.

Additionally, the brand has partnered with Plastic Bank—an organization that helps to establish ethical plastic collection branches within 50 kilometers of oceans and waterways—to stop more than 4.5 million single-use plastic bottles from entering the ocean in 2022. “The plastic that’s collected is then recycled and used in the production of products and packaging, helping to create a new life for old, ocean-bound plastics,” says Rubin.

Reforestation.

Ancient Nutrition is working to plant one million superfood-bearing perennial trees, bushes, vines, and shrubs. These plants help to absorb carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The company is also saving seeds—crucial for preserving food culture—by collecting and banking them from every harvest on its superfood farm of 100-plus heirloom, native and exotic species.

Support third-world countries

Aiding like-minded organizations and their missions is important to Ancient Nutrition, which continues to support Kenya, Africa–based Mully Children’s Family, a nonprofit that has rescued thousands of children from poverty, hunger, homelessness, and human trafficking through community outreach, disaster relief, environmental conservation, education and advocacy.
