As a parent, I’m always on the search for a healthy alternative to whatever sugary treat or salty snack my kids want. I try to avoid jellies and jams since they’re often loaded with sugar, but during a recent grocery store visit, I came across Crofter’s Organic. It doesn’t have as much sugar as other preserves, so I picked up a jar to give it a try. And now we’re hooked!
It’s bursting with flavor
If you’ve ever had homemade jam, you know that it’s sweet, juicy, and sometimes tangy. In comparison, storebought jams and jellies tend not to be as fresh and flavorful. Although I found Crofter’s Organic at Kroger, it tastes just like it was made inside a country kitchen. The first jar I bought was the Apricot Spread. It’s sweet and tart with small chunks of apricots that practically melt in your mouth.
I decided to try a berry variety next, so I bought Crofter’s Organic Seedless Blackberry Spread and found that it has a velvety texture with well-balanced flavor. I don’t know how these spreads maintain their fruity freshness while sitting on a shelf, but I haven’t come across a stale or bland jar yet.
Sugar isn’t the first ingredient
Most jams and jellies list sugar as the first ingredient, but not this one. Crofter’s Organic spreads highlight fruit as the first ingredient, and they contain 33 percent less sugar than a traditional preserve. I’m confident that I can add Crofter’s Organic to whatever recipe I’ve cooked up for my kids, and they won’t be bouncing off the walls from a sugar rush a few minutes later. As a bonus, these spreads are organic, reducing our exposure to pesticides and other synthetic chemicals.
The kids are obsessed
My children would eat this jam by the spoonful if I allowed it. They ask me if I can use it in their PB&J sandwiches or smoothies and, at playdates, kids devour the preserve whether I add it to Fruit and Cheese Quesadillas or just spread it on crackers. I’ve even started using this jam to make some of my recipes, like beef tenderloin, more palatable to those kiddie tastebuds. A thin layer goes a long way!
Adults love it too
I usually steer clear of super sweet spreads like jam since the sugar overload isn’t great for my skin and keeps me up at night, but I’m okay with Crofter’s Organic since it doesn’t contain as much sugar as other brands. I use the Seedless Raspberry Spread to make myself a Summer Peach and Arugula Panini for lunch or sweeten my morning oatmeal with the Strawberry Spread. When family or friends come over, I add Crofter’s Organic to my charcuterie board and even in cocktails and mocktails (yes, really). Try it out and thank me later!
