The annual Stress in America surveys have reported increased stress levels in Americans for the past several years. In a new poll conducted in April and May of 2020, Americans responded that they were feeling considerably more stressed and cited the coronavirus pandemic as a significant stressor.

Finding natural ways to manage stress during times like these is critical, as stress is a known risk factor for a number of chronic disease conditions.

Stress-Busting Tips

Meditation
The mind-body practice of meditation is a simple and effective way to combat stress. A number of apps like Calm and Headspace can help guide users through easy meditation exercises to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation and restful sleep.

Exercise
Staying physically active is just as important for a healthy mind as it is for a healthy body. Exercise promotes the release of “feel-good” endorphins, which in addition to boosting your overall mood can also ease symptoms of stress and depression.

Supplementation
Supplementing with calming herbs and amino acids that are known for their ability to help the body relax and adapt is another way to manage stress.

Relaxia, a new supplement from Natrol, is a drug-free, non-habit forming formula that combines herbal ingredients ashwagandha, l-theanine, 5-HTP and lemon balm.

Ashwagandha is one of the most well-known adaptogens (often referred to as Indian ginseng) used in Ayurvedic medicine to lower stress levels. Results from a study published in the Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine found that ashwagandha was both safe and effective at improving resistance to stress.
