Sometimes the best things in life aren’t necessarily the best things for our health and overall wellbeing. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy greasy food, Netflix binge sessions and late-night parties—we simply need to balance these indulgences with better-for-you, sustainable habits.
Drink more water.
Between soda, juice, coffee and cocktails, it’s hard to choose water at mealtimes, but your body literally depends on the clear liquid to survive. You don’t have to give up your morning latte or evening glass of wine, just make sure that, in addition, you’re hydrating with enough water for your body and lifestyle.

Move your body.
There’s nothing wrong with lounging on the couch and binging Netflix shows every once in a while, but make sure you balance out sedentary activities with plenty of movement. The best exercise program is one that you’ll stick to, so instead of forcing yourself to complete a 5K every morning if you hate running, try gardening, swimming or Zumba. Even 30 minutes a day is beneficial.

Give yourself downtime.
A social calendar filled with get-togethers with the people you love is important for your mental health, but even the most social butterfly needs rest and relaxation to avoid burnout and stress. Whether it’s journaling, yoga, meditation or a warm bubble bath, discover ways you can recharge.

Everything in moderation.
A well-balanced diet full of lean proteins, fruits and veggies, and whole grains is crucial for a healthy lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a slice of pizza on a Friday night. Try the 80/20 rule: 80 percent of the time, fill your body with nutritious foods, then allow yourself to indulge the other 20 percent.

Put down your phone.
Social media can be great for connecting with friends and family—to a point. If you find yourself feeling depressed or anxious after scrolling Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, you may want to start implementing social media breaks, or delete the apps altogether. Your mental health will thank you.
