A passion for chocolate and changing the world are key drivers behind the mission of Seattle-based Theo Chocolate.

“We want to protect the environment as best we can by growing cocoa beans in a biodiverse ecosystem without chemicals and pesticides that are toxic to farmers and the planet,” says chief marketing officer Debra Music. The company works directly with cocoa farmers in Peru and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, offering fair wages, technical training and support. “We feel good because we are helping create a viable and sustainable livelihood for the farmers.”

All of Theo Chocolate’s bars, which are USDA Organic, non-GMO and Fair Trade certified, are manufactured in its Fremont neighborhood factory. “We offer factory tours seven days a week, where visitors can learn about cocoa farming, diverse practices to preserve the environment and, of course, how we make chocolate,” says Music.
