3 Vitamins to Support a Strong Immune System
- PART TWO -
Three fat-soluble vitamins that help support immune health.*
BY VICKI MARTINEZ
Several vitamins are linked with supporting good health and often work together.* A lack of any of them in the diet may have an impact on immune system support. To support a healthy immune system, supplementing your diet with vitamins is something to consider especially when you’re unable to get essential nutrients from your diet alone.*
Vitamins for the Immune System*
In Part 1 of our discussion about the best vitamins to support the immune system, we covered our superstar water-soluble immune system supporting vitamin: Vitamin C.*
Now, let's look at three of the best vitamins to support the immune system that are of the fat-soluble variety: Vitamins D, A and E.*
What is a fat-soluble vitamin?
Fat-soluble vitamins dissolve in fat or oil and are absorbed and stored in the body's tissues. Because they are not used up immediately, these vitamins may build up if taken too frequently. For maximum absorption benefits, fat-soluble vitamins should be eaten with healthy-fat foods such as avocado, nut butter, flaxseed, olive oil and fish.
Vitamin D
Bodies of strong evidence cite vitamin D, best known as “the sunshine vitamin,” as a necessary vitamin to help the immune system to function properly.*
Vitamin A
Available from both plant and animal sources, vitamin A is considered one of the best vitamins to support a healthy immune response.*
Vitamin E
A potent antioxidant, vitamin E is known to play a role in helping to maintain a healthy immune system.*
Dynamic Duos
Some immune-supporting vitamins may work more efficiently or be optimized/activated for various reasons, when taken in combination with other nutrients. When taking supplements and vitamins for the immune system, make sure to pair these dynamic duos that provide additional benefits to support overall health*:
Vitamin D and Calcium: Vitamin D is essential for effective calcium absorption.*
Vitamin D and Magnesium: Magnesium is essential for the conversion of vitamin D into its active form.*
