Snacking often gets a bad rap, but chowing down in between meals isn’t always a negative thing. In fact, snacking can provide a boost of energy, curb your appetite to prevent overeating and deliver extra nutrients to your body. The key is making sure you’re choosing the right snacks.

“Plant-based protein is really the core of the healthy snacking trend,” says Caroline Bredemus, brand manager for Sahale Snacks, a company known for its wholesome snacks that don’t sacrifice flavor. “People are doing more purposeful snacking throughout the day. They’re looking for something that’s going to fill them up and keep them fueled during their afternoon lull. We’ve been trying to meet our consumers’ snacking behaviors and personal needs.”

Sahale Snacks Bean + Nut Snack Mixes, for example, boast at least five grams of protein per serving and less than two grams of sugar, and all of Sahale’s product lines offer healthy ingredients to keep you satisfied between meals.

Beans and Legumes

As suggested by the name, the stars of Sahale Snacks’ Bean + Nut Snack Mixes are, you guessed it, beans and legumes. Covering lentils, chickpeas, fava beans, edamame and peanuts (yes, peanuts are technically a legume, rather than a nut) to name a few, this class of vegetables is low in fat and cholesterol-free, as well as high in folate, potassium, iron, magnesium and fiber. Translation: They support healthy cell formation and growth, aid muscle and nerve function, and maintain blood sugar and hunger levels.

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds like almonds, cashews, pecans, and pepitas are another common ingredient found in all of Sahale Snacks’ product lines, including the Glazed Mixes, Trail Mixes, Coconut Snack Mixes, and Bean + Nut Snack Mixes. While typically high in calories and fat, nuts and seeds contain the good kind of fat—think unsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids—as well as fiber and vitamin E. These nutrients help the heart by improving the lining of your arteries, lowering levels of inflammation linked to heart disease and reducing the risk for developing blood clots.

Fruits

Fruit in Sahale Snacks’ Glazed Mixes, Trail Mixes and Coconut Snack Mixes offer just the right amount of sweet to balance the savory notes from legumes and nuts. It feels like an indulgence, but really, these bananas, pomegranates, blueberries, apples, mangoes, raspberries, pineapple and cherries are a boon to your health. Reduce your risk of ailments like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and poor eyesight with regular servings of nature’s candy. Go ahead, eat the rainbow!
